Curt started
riding motorcycles when he was about 12 yrs old with friends around
the neighborhood. His parents didn't know he rode.
At
the age of 16,
Curt
won his first 10 races as a
novice. Promoters moved him to the junior class in the Dirt Track
division. There, he won 40 out of 42 races and was moved to expert
class.
In 1977, Curt turned Pro
on the Dirt Track circuit. He compete for a couple years on the pro
level, but sustained an eye injury that ending his career.
In 1994, Curt met Steve
and Jo Munger who manage the Tulare Cycle Park in Tulare, CA. The
Munger's were responsible for getting Curt involved with AHRMA. Curt
raced Tulare Vintage for years. In 2001, Curt and his son, Jerad,
teamed up with Jim Nation and have been riding for him ever since.
Curt is involved in
vintage racing for the fun of it. "It’s the people" he says. "The
racing is fun. I hope we encourage all the young people we can to get
involved because I wouldn’t be doing it if it wasn’t for my son. It’s a
family sport and we enjoy it" he adds. "We do modern and have a blast,
but the vintage is all about friends".
